Baltasar Ebang Engonga, Equatorial Guinea's top financial investigator, was chained and imprisoned after embarrassing videotape allegations and corruption. The director of Equatorial Guinea's National Financial Investigations Agency, Baltasar Ebang Engonga, was seen being led in handcuffs to Malabo Central Prison, where he is awaiting trial.
Engonga is charged with embezzlement and corruption, allegedly stealing billions of CFA francs from the government. Shocking new findings in the well-known case have captivated the country:...more than 400 explicit recordings of Engonga with a variety of women, including married ladies and powerful individuals.
A large collection of these cassettes was purportedly discovered in his flat, which infuriated the public and led to more accusations of unethical behavior. In addition to promising a comprehensive investigation, Attorney General Nzang Nguema has warned that Engonga might be charged with more crimes if any public health issues are found.
Social media responses from the public show a range of opinions, with some calling for a more thorough investigation into systematic corruption and others demanding rigorous accountability.
The controversy has spurred discussions about Equatorial Guinea's norms for public office conduct and brings to light urgent concerns about integrity among the country's leadership. The response from netizens:
@nkrumahboateng: Given the shame, it's clear that they have made up lies. @JpChidiOkoye1: What specifically is his offense? @Wedaga123: What went wrong for him to be shackled? What justifies s—x being shackled?
@iamwizgh: Hopefully, they won't kill him. I don't understand Kraa, therefore I guess he might have joined a cult. It's sad, bro.
