Nov. 3, Anloga (VR), GNA – Ghana's president, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has promised to hand over power to the victor of the country's December 7 presidential election in a peaceful manner. This pledge demonstrates Ghana's commitment to maintaining democratic values and making sure that the country's leadership transitions smoothly.
At the annual Hogbetsotsoza, the traditional celebration of the Anlo chiefs and people at Anloga, which was attended by Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, the opposition National Democratic Congress's vice presidential candidate, Osabarima Kwesi Atta II, Omanhene of Oguaa Traditional Area, and Daasebre Kwaku Boateng III, Omanhene of New Juaben Traditional Area, Mr. Akufo-Addo provided the assurance.
The President stated that in addition to being prepared for a peaceful handover of power, he was also dedicated to a transparent and peaceful election process in order to maintain the current level of calm in the nation, which is essential for progress.
"I want to reassure the people of Ghana, the Volta Region, and Anlo that the next elections in December will be free, fair, transparent, and peaceful. And on December 7th, I shall pass the torch of national leadership to the person selected by the Ghanaian people.
Togbi Sri III, the Awoamefia of Anlo, was given assurances by President Akufo-Addo that his worries over the completion of existing projects in the Anlo area will be taken into consideration. "I'll give it my all in these final few months of my administration. However, I want to guarantee that they will be taken care of even after I go.
As he noted, "This being the last Hogbetsotso of my Presidency, I felt it necessary to come today to pay my respect to Awoamefia," he wished Togbi Sri, whom he called his "good friend," well in his ongoing reign. The President remarked, "I pray to God to give you a long life and more success in your reign, and I thank you very much for all of your support, advice, and counsel over the past eight years."
The President was congratulated by Togbi Sri, the Awoamefia, for including the Municipal and District Assemblies in Anlo without district hospitals in the ambitious Agenda 111 project, which aims to increase access to healthcare nationwide.
In order to provide the region with the necessary development, he also discussed the proposed Keta Port Project, the dredging of the Keta Lagoon, and ongoing procedures to secure the Anlo coastline under the West Africa Coastal Areas Resilience Investment Project. The importance of maintaining peace prior to, during, and following the elections on December 7 was emphasized by the festival's speakers, who included Prof. Opoku-Agyemang, Osabarima Atta, and Daasebre Boateng.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency, some celebration attendees said they were thrilled by the sentiments delivered at the durbar, particularly the president's announcement on the elections. "Our President is committed to maintaining the nation's democratic traditions, so we can rest easy. One of them, who only went as Perfect, stated, "President Akufo-Addo's pledge sets a positive tone for the election's outcome. The transfer of power is a crucial component of any democratic system."
Celebrated at Anloga every first Saturday in November, the event, sometimes called Hogbeza, honors the mythical migration of the Ewe-Dogbo people from Notsie in modern-day Togo. It draws chiefs and people from Eweland, other regions of the nation, and the diaspora. The Anlo Youth Council, the umbrella organization for Anlo youth, led the organization for the first time in 2024. The event's theme was "Strengthening Bonds and Embracing Our Shared Heritage." GNA
