After the recent elections, Dr. Arthur Kobina Kennedy issued a harsh indictment of Ghana's political leadership in his introspective essay, The People's Verdict. He urged political parties and their leaders to embrace accountability and reform, emphasizing that the electorate rejects corruption, ineptitude, and arrogance. Noting that "the problem with Ghana is not the ordinary Ghanaian; it has always been leadership," Dr. Kennedy commended Ghanaian voters for their wisdom. "This is your time to write your name on the right side of history," he said, acknowledging President-elect John Mahama's tenacity. Stop Galamsey, combat corruption, and fortify institutions.
"We had an election, not a coup," he added, urging Mahama to control the vigilantes in his party. Dr. Kennedy did not hold back when he criticised his own party, the NPP, blaming their defeat on years of looting, ineptitude, and conceit. “We looted public coffers for eight years and then marched boldly to the precipice by choosing the face of this failure to lead us,” he said. "Ashanti, once led by greats like Donkor Fordjour, is now led by Wontumi," he bemoaned, criticizing the internal disintegration. Dr. Kennedy urged the remaining stalwarts to take the initiative and appealed for the NPP to return to its core values. He said, "Let's rebuild an NPP that is excellent as its foot soldiers and the Ghanaian people."
In closing, he prayed and urged reflection, saying, "May God bless Ghana and the NPP." View his entire post below. THE VERDICT OF PEOPLE. The people have finally spoken, and the elections are finished. Additionally, their decision is unequivocal and unambiguous. They disapproved of ineptitude, corruption, haughtiness, and a careless disdain for the interests of the country. To be honest, I write out of a sad sense of obligation rather than joy. I am aware of the potential insults. I'm preparing myself for the frustrated questions from loved ones about why I can't just leave Ghana and take care of myself. But I shall fulfill my duty because patriotism demands it. Let me start by praising Ghanaian voters for their insight and intelligence.
They have voted for change on multiple occasions, including in 2000, 2008, and 2016, yet their leaders have let them down each time. Every now and then, certain ignorant people take to the public sphere to preach about how the average Ghanaian is the cause of the country's problems. It's not. Leadership has been the issue since before the Republic was established and will continue to be so. I would therefore like to congratulate John Mahama, the president-elect, on his incredible recovery. In politics, few people get another chance. As you have previously stated, Sir, "Vindication is in the womb of time."
Now is that moment, sir. Take advantage of this moment to leave your mark on history's right side. Put an end to corruption and hold people accountable for the harm done to our nation. Fight ineptitude. Put an end to the impunity and haughtiness. Stop Galamsey and make institutions stronger. Let's pretend that our country isn't home to a number of alternating one-party regimes that are committed to embezzlement. And you can start by admonishing and dismissing your party's vigilantes, sir.
Instead of a coup, we had an election! May you be strengthened by God! According to a statement released by my party, the NPP, through its steering committee, "The party's steering committee has started consensus-building engagements to develop a clear pathway to probe the outcome of the election etc." They also urged people to denounce the public plundering of EC offices and other places! The way time passes. The party that didn't think there was anything wrong with vigilantes going to court to liberate foot troops, or with the 2020 killings of civilians, or with Ayawaso-Wugon, has suddenly come out against vigilantism? Ladies and gentlemen, it is because of the stupidity we fostered and accepted that this nkwaseas3m is now taking place.
Since an eye for an eye will render us all blind, we must put an end to this. Let me spare them the bother, time, and money on the inquiry. We lost because we fostered Galamsey, showed ineptitude, showed hubris, and plundered public funds for eight years! In order to lead us boldly over the precipice, we then chose the public face of this crime against Ghanaians—the man who claimed that one dollar to four cedis was too high but that the fundamentals were sound with one dollar to sixteen cedis—the man we hailed as the most influential vice president in our history who turned into a mere Aplanke during election season.
However, the rot was more extensive than Dr. Bawumia. Wontumi is the new leader of Ashanti, which was previously headed by people like Donkor Fordjour! We now have Napo and Wontumi thanks to Prempeh College, which previously provided us with Kufuor and Crabbe! The leaders of the party, which was founded by men who risked their freedom and their money to create it, have not suffered and now view it as a means of accumulating fortune. Galamsey was incorporated and we had our retribution for doing nothing when we lent the party to an unholy alliance of the Kyebi Mafia.
Too many people who were aware of the situation permitted the sacrifice of Afoko and Kwabena Agyapong while they remained silent in order to maintain their position at the table of pillage. Even the great JA Kufuor declined to fight for his party, preferring peace to principle. Among the good men and women in this party are the Essamuah Brothers, Mustapha Idris, Prof. Adu Boahen, Amo Bediako, Hawa Yakubu, da Rocha, Appiah-Menkah, and Alhaji Gibrine, to name a few. And if they will stand up and defend it, there are still good men in it. Kwame Pianim, Charles Amo, Dr. Nyaho Tamakloe, Prof. Frimpong Boateng, Victor Owusu, Kweku Paintsil, Mustapha Idris, Boakye Agyarko, Rita Talata, and Ben Annan are a few of these.
Rebuilding the party on its original tenets is both possible and necessary. By no means is Dr. Bawumia the most diligent primary. Kufuor was the textbook campaign between 1996 and 1998. He was poor, modest, and a hard worker! However, he prevailed. They showed me the cots he slept on in locations like Yendi and Bimbilla in 2007. Our last grassroots leader was him. Let's rebuild the NPP to be as good as its warriors and the people of Ghana. God bless the NPP and Ghana.
