Boamah, Dr. Edward Omane The Electoral Commission's (EC) management of the voter registration for the 2024 General Elections has once again drawn strong criticism from the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC). Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, the director of elections, emphasized in a statement how the EC's failure to provide important voter data compromised its credibility and openness.
Prior Inconsistencies This comes after the NDC asserted that a forensic examination was necessary because to earlier inconsistencies found in the provisional voter registration. This demand was denied by the EC, and the audit is currently scheduled for January 2025. Absent Data
Important information such as national voter statistics, constituency and regional breakdowns, absentee voter statistics, gender statistics, and proxy voter data are missing from the final voters register. The ability of stakeholders to confirm the accuracy of the registry is restricted by this omission. The NDC's Urgent Appeal The NDC calls on the European Commission to address these shortcomings, release the whole statistical analysis, and hold the media, international community, and civil society organizations accountable.
The following is what Dr. Omane Boamah posted on his Facebook page: The Electoral Commission continues to raise questions and cast doubt on the presidential and parliamentary elections scheduled for 2024. —————————————————————————————————— -- The 2024 General Elections' legitimacy and transparency are weakened by the Electoral Commission's failure to provide important voter data.
As the pivotal 2024 General Elections get near, it is imperative that Ghanaians, all political stakeholders, and the international world be made aware of our grave concerns about the acts and inactions of the country's Electoral Commission (EC). As you may remember, we requested a forensic audit after finding significant inconsistencies in the provisional voter registration, but the Electoral Commission refused. The EC will have to wait until January 2025 for that forensic audit.
However, the importance of the forensic audit is already beginning to expose and embarrass those who secretly conspired with the Commission to thwart the urgently needed forensic audit of the register, even before the first ballot is cast. In the meantime, the IT system audit is still pending. We must acknowledge that the integrity of any democratic process depends heavily on the competence, credibility, and transparency of the EC, and recent events cast serious doubt on the Commission's dedication to holding an impartial and fair election.
As America watched a past president be re-elected yesterday, November 6, 2024, the EC invited copies of the final voter list to be sent to all political parties. Remarkably, the given voter registration was devoid of crucial information required to confirm its legitimacy: * National Voter Data, * Voter statistics by constituency and region, * Statistics on Absentee Voters, * Statistics on Gender, and * Proxy voter statistics.
Political parties and civil society organizations can carefully examine and verify the voter registration thanks to this data, which is essential for openness. Political stakeholders' capacity to confirm the correctness and completeness of the voter registration, which is the foundation of legitimate elections, is hampered by the omission of such crucial information.
The Electoral Commission is endangering the credibility of the election result and raising more questions and concerns about the transparency of the next elections by refusing to release these crucial facts. 1. Transparency and Trust: Elections can only be considered legitimate if all parties and interested parties have faith in the procedures being used. In addition to undermining this trust, the EC's failure to disclose crucial voter data also restricts accountability.
2. Vo's Credibility [07/11/2024, 10:49] Akufo-Addo Slams Mahama, Says Mr. Alimi Dg More than a 24-Hour Economy Given the demise of important sectors under John Mahama's direction, President Nana Akufo-Addo has questioned his capacity to create a 24-hour economy. Once a bustling 24-hour business, the Kumasi Brewery made Guinness and beer. Its demise during the administration of former President John Mahama has come to represent his failure to maintain important industry. Akufo-Addo's Analysis "You want an economy that runs around the clock, but you can't manage what was entrusted to you." Will you take action now to address this issue?
