After stopping Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh (NAPO), the vice presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), on the parliamentary floor, members of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) posed in dancing positions. The two Members of Parliament, Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka of the Asawase constituency and Samuel Nartey George of the Ningo Prampram constituency, were depicted in a photo with positions that were interpreted as dance steps. As he looked at the two MPs, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh was spotted chuckling enthusiastically.

In the general elections held on December 7, 2024, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia was the NPP's presidential candidate, while Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh was their vice presidential candidate. John Dramani Mahama of the NDC and Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, his vice presidential candidate, defeated the pair, causing them to lose the election. According to the results announced from 267 seats (nine constituencies were excluded), Bawumia and NAPO received 4,657,304 votes, or 41.61 percent of the legitimate votes cast, while John and Jane received 6,328,397 votes, or 56.55 percent.
