Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, the Vice Presidential Candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has pledged that the next NDC government will work closely with queen mothers to address poverty in Ghana, particularly in the Central Region.

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang made this statement while addressing a forum of Central Regional Queen Mothers on Tuesday, November 26, under the theme: “Building the Central Region We Want: Shared Perspectives from Our Queen Mothers.”

Expressing concern over the Central Region being ranked the fourth poorest in the country, she emphasized the importance of collaboration between governments and traditional leaders, including queen mothers, to drive poverty alleviation efforts.

She outlined several initiatives that the NDC plans to implement if elected into office. These include introducing a 24-hour economy policy, establishing a Women’s Development Bank, launching a National Apprenticeship Programme, and rolling out the "Big Push" initiative aimed at creating jobs and empowering women financially.

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang assured that the Central Region would benefit significantly from these policies, with plans to build new markets and expand infrastructure to boost local economies.

Highlighting another critical issue, she addressed the high rates of teenage pregnancy in the region. She vowed that an NDC government would work with queen mothers to find sustainable solutions to this challenge.

Finally, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang called on the queen mothers to support the NDC's presidential candidate, John Dramani Mahama, in the upcoming elections, urging them to vote massively to ensure the party fulfils its development promises to the people of Ghana.
