If the NPP repeats Dr. Bawumia as their candidate 10 times, they will lose 10 times - Hopeson Adorye
Hopeson Adorye, a former member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has stated that the NPP will stay in opposition forever should they present Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as their flagbearer again in any elections.
According to him, given the doctrines of the party dynamics, it is unlikely that a Muslim candidate will be able to clinch power on the party’s ticket.
Hopeson who is now a member of Alan Kyerematen's Movement for Change explained that in certain countries, not all religious backgrounds qualify to become president, and as a result, he believes that Bawumia will not help the NPP return to power.
Speaking in an interview on UTV on December 13, 2024, he stated, “There is no Christian who can be president in Egypt, Niger, and Morocco because the Muslims are plenty. NPP is the only party that presents a Muslim.
"No Muslim has been a president before. NPP’s tradition has been a Christian president and a Muslim vice, and they wanted to change it, which is not possible. They should stick to it because if they repeat Bawumia ten times, they will lose ten times.”
