Saaka Nicholas, an ambitious and enterprising student of the College of Tropical Agriculture, has been named the winner of the prestigious National Best Student in Agribusiness Award for 2023 by the National Agriculture Students and Agribusiness Association (NASAAG). The award was presented at a ceremony held at GIMPA in Accra, recognizing his outstanding contributions to Ghana’s agricultural sector.
Championing Agribusiness Excellence
Saaka’s entrepreneurial journey and leadership in agribusiness have earned him admiration from across the country. His ventures, which include founding Sanich Farms and co-founding Adwinton Company, are rooted in solving challenges within the agricultural sector, creating job opportunities, and promoting food security.
The NASAAG award celebrates Saaka’s innovative approach to agribusiness, highlighting his ability to inspire and mentor young people aspiring to make an impact in agriculture. His dedication was acknowledged by Dr. Daniel Augustus Lartey Jr., Presidential Candidate of the Great Consolidated People’s Party (GCPP), who pledged mentorship and support to help Saaka achieve even greater success.
From Humble Beginnings to Transformative Impact
Saaka’s story is one of resilience and determination. Growing up with limited resources and no initial capital, he pursued entrepreneurship as a way to solve societal problems and create lasting change. His journey began after graduating from Hwidiem Senior High School, where he embraced agriculture as a pathway to innovation and self-reliance.
Despite initial aspirations to become a medical doctor, Saaka identified the vast potential in agriculture and shifted his focus to agribusiness. This decision led to the establishment of Sanich Farms, a company specializing in poultry farming and services. Sanich Farms offers products and services such as day-old chicks, farm management, consultancy, and general poultry guidance. The farm’s vision is to modernize Ghana’s poultry industry and provide quality, healthy poultry products.
In addition, Saaka co-founded Adwinton Company, which supplies agricultural products like maize, soybeans, and wheat bran to farmers and feed processors, addressing the supply chain needs of the poultry and pig farming industries.
A Voice for the Youth
As the Youth MP for the Ejisu Constituency under Youth Model Parliament Ghana, Saaka has also been a vocal advocate for young people, encouraging them to pursue entrepreneurship. He advises aspiring entrepreneurs to persevere, maintain credibility, and build themselves to attract success rather than chasing money.
“Acknowledge the hard work of fellow entrepreneurs,” Saaka said. “Don’t give up on your dreams. Be job creators and innovators, not just job seekers. With perseverance, we can achieve our aspirations and create maximum impact.”
Inspiration for Ghana’s Agriculture Future
Saaka’s recognition as the NASAAG National Best Student in Agribusiness underscores the potential of agriculture to transform lives and communities. His success serves as a beacon of hope for youth, reinforcing the importance of innovation and sustainability in Africa’s agricultural sector.
With ventures like Sanich Farms and Adwinton Company, Saaka Nicholas is poised to lead Ghana’s agribusiness into a brighter and more sustainable future. His journey is not only a testament to hard work and vision but also a reminder that agriculture remains a cornerstone of growth and opportunity in Africa.
