The over four thousand ex-workers of the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) who were retrenched in 2002 without their severance benefit have dismissed former President John Mahama’s chances of winning the 2024 presidential election as non-existent.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the aggrieved ex-workers said the former President cannot win because he is a star-crossed candidate whose past actions have become a blockade against his own chances.

“It is not for nothing that when late former President John Evans Atta Mills died, Rev. Owusu Bempah came out to say that Mr John Mahama will never be president again, in this country. It is also not for nothing that Primate Elijah Ayodele, a prominent Nigerian spiritualist, has said that John Mahama has offended God.

“These men of God spoke this way because in the spirit, they have seen that Mr. Mahama has closed the door in his own face by being unjust towards many people,” the statement partly read.

It was signed by the leader of the ex-workers, Mr. Stephen Ashitey Adjei, alias Moshake.

According to the statement, this spiritual barrier was the reason why Mahama suffered the most humiliating defeats in presidential elections in Ghana, losing by almost 1million votes in 2016 and losing by more than 500,000 votes in 2020.

“Some of the people whose pain and hurt has become a hammer of revenge against John Mahama are the ex-workers of the GPHA who continue to suffer and cry out for justice against him,” the statement added.

It would be recalled that the Kufuor government had superintended over the retrenchment of the ex-workers and refused to pay them their severance benefits.

The ex-workers, would fight for justice from that time until Mills became president and they petitioned him. President Mills is said to have issued a fiat for the ex-workers to be paid however, he soon after died suddenly in office, bequeathing the process to John Mahama. Mr. Mahama however stopped the process and ignored petitions that the ex-workers had written to him.

“If you look at the state of all those who were part of the wickedness and injustice that was done us, they are all suffering – see Kufour is confined to a wheel chair while most of the GPHA leaders who were conspiratorial are all suffering one form of sickness or another.

“In the case of John Mahama, Karma’s justice has mainly been in the form of humiliating defeats and this has not stopped because he is guilty of wickedness against the down-trodden,” the statement added.

It chronicled that as a result of Mahama’s refusal to complete what President Mills had started, the ex-workers have remained unpaid for 22 years.

“In the period, some of the ex-workers have died in poverty, marriages have broken up with some wives forced into prostitution; children have dropped out of school and many have become ill in abject poverty ,” the statement said.

It pointed out that some of the ex-workers are very spiritual and have been consulting mediums for justice. Apart from this, the Christians and Muslims among them have also been praying for God’s justice against all the people who contributed to the injustice done the ex-workers.

“Karma does not forgive or forget, it always pay back and that is why if you do good, you reap good and if you do evil, you reap evil. Karma has not forgiven John Mahama and that is why it will be better if he steps out of the presidential race,” the statement added.
