Ghanaian Islamic cleric, Sheikh Abu Dujana Basha Ibn Bayaan has condemned the recent visit of the National Chief Imam to the Head Officer of the Bulk Oil Storage and Transport (BOST), blaming his handlers for poorly managing his movements.
According to him, the visit was unnecessary, considering his status and age, the handlers of Sheikh Osmanu Nuhu Shaributu should be limiting his movement, describing as unnecessary, the visit to the office of the newly appointed Acting Managing Director of BOST, Afetsi Awoonor.
Sheikh Abu Dujana, the only Islamic cleric who openly endorsed and campaigned for President John Mahama, also questioned the significance of his appointment to the Muslim community that warrants a special visit by the national chief imam.
Sheikh Abu Dujana in an interview with Zaa News on Thursday said the handlers of the Chief Imam must find ways to help the over 100 years old revered Chief Imam, adding that a delegation should have been sent to congratulate Mr Afetsi on behalf of the Chief Imam, if it was an absolute necessity.
He questioned why the handlers of the Chief Imam did not consider visiting newly appointed Ministers who will be facing serious challenges in their various ministries.
"I condemn the visit, especially the handlers of the Chief Imam. Why did they choose BOST instead of say, the Education Minister, or the Agric or Finance Ministers whose ministries have serious problems" he said.
"We have economic problems, so if the Chief Imam needed to offer special prayers to anybody at all at their office, it should have been the Finance Minister where we have serious economic challenges or at the Education or Interior Ministries where the ministers have to deal with a number of challenges in these sectors" Sheikh Dujana added.
The National Chief Imam on Monday visited the MD of BOST at his office, to congratulate Mr. Afetsi Awoonor, who is regarded as a son of the Chief Imam. According to reports, the bond between their families runs deep, as Alhaji Dr. Sheikh Osmanu Nuhu Shaributu was a long-time friend of Afetsi's late father, the esteemed Professor Awoonor.
During his visit, the Chief Imam expressed his heartfelt congratulations to Mr. Awoonor, acknowledging the immense honour and responsibility placed upon him.
