The flagbearer of the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP), Madam Akua Donkor, has announced her decision to pursue legal action against former President John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC). This follows Mahama's recent comments questioning the eligibility of certain presidential candidates to be on the ballot.

During a campaign tour, Mr. Mahama voiced his confusion over the Electoral Commission’s decision to disqualify some candidates, including Bernard Mornah of the People’s National Convention (PNC), while allowing others he believed were less deserving to remain on the ballot. He stated, "The PNC is more qualified than several parties I see on the ballot paper. That's the problem we have with the Electoral Commission; sometimes they are discriminatory. There are people on this ballot that Bernard Mornah is more qualified than, and I know this may provoke controversy, but I stand by it."

These remarks angered Akua Donkor, who expressed her dissatisfaction during an Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting in Accra. She announced her plan to sue the former president, arguing that he had no authority to question her right to be on the ballot since he did not contribute to the formation of her party.

"If Mahama claims to be an ex-President, I will take him to court. I will sue him for 2 trillion cedis. Why should he say I don't deserve to be on the ballot?" Akua Donkor stated.

She also mentioned her intention to serve the Electoral Commission with a writ following the process, asserting that, as a Ghanaian citizen, she has the same right to be on the ballot as any other presidential candidate.

"I am deeply offended by his comments," she added.
