A member of the Ghana Medical Association (GMA), Dr. Vishnu Nene Limon Abayateye, has filed a petition with the National Executive Council seeking the removal of the Association's President, Dr. Frank Serebuor.

Dated October 8, the petition accuses Dr. Serebuor of violating Articles 16 and 23(3) of the GMA constitution. Dr. Abayateye stated, "I am notifying you of my intention to move a motion for the removal of the President, Dr. Frank Serebuor, from office at the upcoming Annual General Assembly in Ho, in accordance with Article 23 of the GMA constitution."

The petition cites two main charges against Dr. Serebuor:

Unilaterally issuing a statement, without consulting the National Executive Council or the General Assembly, which announced the Association's non-participation in organized labour's strike against illegal mining and its harmful health and environmental effects. This action, according to Dr. Abayateye, contravenes Article 16 of the GMA constitution.
This move damaged the Association's reputation among the public and created the impression of duplicity, given its previous stance on illegal mining.
Dr. Abayateye expressed confidence in securing the necessary two-thirds majority of the General Assembly to support the motion for removal. He further requested that the motion be included in the notice for the Annual General Meeting, scheduled to take place in Ho from November 3rd to 10th, 2024, and be communicated to the involved officer and the general membership.
