The Ghana Cricket Association (GCA) held its Annual General Congress at the Theodosia Okoh Hockey Stadium on Saturday, October 19, 2024. GCA President Emmanuel O. Asare expressed his gratitude for the peaceful congress, despite some differences, and emphasized the association’s focus on collaboration and progress.

“We had a peaceful congress, and we thank God that things have ended peacefully,” Asare said. “Now, our focus is on working together and sharing our energies to move the association forward.”

Reflecting on 2024, Asare described it as a challenging year, largely due to preparations for the African Games, where cricket made its debut after a long absence. The association’s efforts to improve facilities compromised local activities, resulting in a lean year for achievements.

“Whatever we did this year was geared towards preparing for the African Games,” Asare explained. “We didn’t achieve much locally, but we’ve revamped our facilities.”

Asare outlined his expectations post-AGM, prioritizing sponsorship drives to secure support from corporate bodies. He highlighted the expensive nature of cricket, citing the GH¢ 5,000 cost of introducing the sport to just 50 students.

“Our sponsorship drive is crucial,” Asare emphasized. “We need partners to support our events and activities. We’re also seeking transport support for our office operations.”
