The Ghana Cricket Association has begun their GCA League A 2024 at the Achimota Cricket Ovals on Sunday, December 1, 2024, as Rana Motors Cricket Club and Defenders Cricket Club getting off to a flying start with victories against Evolve Paint and Carel Super Kings respectively.

Earlier, Aziz Sualley 41 (30) was adjudged Player of the match, while team mate Daniel Anefi became the hero of the day, as Defenders clinched a 9 runs win against Carel Super Kings (CSK) who fought till the last over, managing 122-8 after the former had scored 131-8 in the first innings.

CSK’s Peter Ananya 35(34) scored a boundary 4 on the first ball in the 20th over to give CSK great hopes of snatching the 2 points, with 9 runs required from 5 balls, but Daniel Anefi secured dot balls in all 5 deliveries as Ananya found no answers to opening his arms for successive boundaries.

Daniel wrapped up the game with these figures 4-1-12-1, having had a good game with a good win but CSK’s Vincent Ateak had better bowling figures; 4-0-23-3.

Later in the afternoon, Rana Motors needed 15.1 overs to outscore Evolve Paint 117/9 in 18 overs to win by 5 wickets.

It was all Rana Motors, as Evolve Paint could not evolve around the Oval to get the needed results, and conceded 120-5. Richmond 46(40)*, with bowling figures 2-0-23-3, was named the Player of the match, but the likes of Subhasis Ray 39(37), also came to the party in the second innings, while Sachin Pandey and Hari Prasad Mohanty had great times with their bowling with figures 4-0-23-3 and 4-0-20-2 respectively.

Captain of Evolve Paint, Navalekar Anil 39(34) was however among the top performers on the day.

The league, with 9 clubs in each group; A and B, is expected to be crunchy and exciting as the GCA hopes to further uplift the gentleman’s game in Ghana.

Teams like BGC, Bangle Tigers, Harry Hills, Ras Binghi, and defending champions Supreme are waiting to exhibit excellence and prove why they deserve to win.
