A former Moderator of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church in Ghana, the Very Reverend Japhet Yao Ledo, passed away. According to Samuel Koku Ledo, the Moderator's son, who confirmed his father's passing to the Ghana News Agency (GNA), he passed away on Monday, December 30, at the age of 84, following a brief illness, in a private medical facility in Ho. He revealed that following family agreements, burial plans will be revealed when the time came. The Very Reverend Ledo's passing was a great loss to the Church, Volta region, Ghana, and the ecumenical ministry, according to Rev. Dr. Lawson Kwaku Dzanku, Clerk of the Church's General Assembly, who spoke to the GNA.
"His death is a big blow not only to the family but the entire EPCG," he said, describing the late Moderator as a wealth of knowledge and a wonderful value to the Church. He sent the deceased family sympathy on behalf of the Church. Originating from Klefe in the Ho Municipality, the deceased Moderator was the Church's Moderator from January 1993 to January 2001. After teaching for a while, he graduated from the Jasikan Training College in 1966. In 1972, he enrolled in Trinity College, which is now Trinity Theological Seminary, in Accra to receive pastoral training. Before moving to Princeton, the late Moderator served the Church at a number of stations after being ordained as a Minister of the Church on August 8, 1976.
Following his return, he taught at the Church's Seminary in Peki before being chosen as the Church's eleventh Moderator. He continued to serve the Church after retiring, holding positions such as Chairman of the EPCG University Fundraising Committee. The Volta Heroes Foundation, an NGO, honored the Very Rev. Ledo and others at its third awards ceremony in 2015 for their support of the founding of the E. P. University in Ho. He was said to be an example for others to follow. Two boys, a daughter, and his wife, Mrs. Esther Ledo, were left behind by the Very Rev. Ledo.
