Under the direction of Justice Kizita Naa Koowa Quarshie, the Criminal Division "5" of the High Court in Accra has issued a bench warrant for the arrest of radio host Animwaa Anim-Addo on charges of defrauding Godfred Yeboah Dame, the Attorney General and Minister for Justice. Anim-Addo was accused of defrauding by false pretense and giving contradicting grants of the same land to several parties, but he did not show up for court, therefore the warrant was issued. For additional procedures, the case has been postponed until January 21, 2025. Claims In a brief for Assistant State Attorney Isaac Wilberforce Mensah, prosecutor Assistant State Attorney Maame Afua Osei Gyamerah listed the following accusations:
Anim-Addo went to Mr. Dame in September 2021 and said she urgently needed $50,000 for spinal surgery in India that would save her life. According to reports, she pledged to pay back the money within two months or let the funds be used as a down payment for a plot of land in East Legon in exchange for security. Based on her repeated assurances and urgent requests, Mr. Dame, who had known Anim-Addo for three years due to her help with public relations and media appearances, grudgingly granted her the money. When Mr. Dame returned from a trip to the United States a few days later, he found Anim-Addo presenting a radio program. In response to questions, Anim-Addo stated that she had visited India, had the surgery, and was back at work.
Subsequent inquiries showed that Anim-Addo had neither visited India or had any medical treatments. Land Grants in Conflict Subsequent research revealed that Anim-Addo had paid $30,000 to an estate developer, Cod Company Ltd., for the same plot of land that had been submitted as collateral. A few months after she had presented the land to Hon. Dame, this sale took place in April 2022. Legal action and a partial refund Only $5,000 of the $50,000 has been repaid to Mr. Dame by Anim-Addo since the complaint was filed, leaving $45,000 unpaid. To guarantee her appearance in court for the remainder of the trial, a bench warrant was issued.
