Nana Kwame Bediako, the New Force's presidential candidate, has expressed worry about Ghana's subpar public health facility management and has attributed it primarily to insufficient funding as a result of people's incapacity to pay for medical care. Nana Kwame Bediako is promoting what he refers to as the "SSNIT Revolution" as one of his twelve pillars of economic independence.
As part of his 276-nation tour leading up to the 2024 elections, Mr. Bediako spoke to officials at the Hohoe Hospital in the Volta Region. He elaborated on his plan to transform the way the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) uses pension contributions, which he said will be a game-changer for the affordability of healthcare and the sustainability of public health facilities. Nana Kwame Bediako emphasized the challenges facing the health sector, especially the dearth of reasonably priced healthcare solutions, in an interview with a hospital official. He claimed that this burden would be lessened with the implementation of the "SSNIT Revolution," one of his 12 Pillars for Economic Freedom.
This strategy will encourage a more active flow of funds within the system by allowing SSNIT contributors to access their money after five years to pay for medical bills. According to him, this action will also draw investors to the health sector, enhancing Ghana's healthcare system. "We want you to believe in us because we truly have something to offer this nation. The SSNIT revolution is one of our concepts. For what reason are you keeping the money for forty years? The funds will begin to circulate in the system once they are released in five years and placed in an insurance plan that will allow anyone who becomes ill and works to use the insurance to heal themselves.
The money's circulation is the issue. He said, "Maybe 50% of the people in Hohoe cannot afford their hospital bills because there is no circulation." According to him, many public health facilities finally depend on donations to remain afloat as a result of the absence of money circulation. "After 20 years, the hospital building is depleted and arrives with all the complaints and everything else. It's comparable to a hotel that is in decline due to a lack of sustainability. I believe that every hospital we have been to has experienced this. I seen the same thing at Sunyani, Tamale, and numerous other locations. The lack of affordability and circulation is the reason.
Because of this, we think that the SSNIT revolution, in which we use tax dollars to fund an insurance program that functions similarly to bank funds to cover these expenses, will not only allow the money to flow through hospitals but also draw in investors because it is now available. He pointed out that without the funds, no one would make their investment. The University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) is visited by Nana Kwame Bediako. However, at Hohoe, Nana Kwame Bediako, his running companion, Dr. Maryam Issaka Kriese, and other New Force members met with University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) executives to talk about other important national concerns.
The Volta Region has the potential to develop into a significant industrial center, able to link the country via the Volta River and create essential distribution networks for domestically produced commodities, according to Nana Kwame Bediako's speech.
Concerned about the "brain drain" situation, he pointed out that Ghana imports completed goods created from its raw resources while spending a lot of money on education only to have its citizens go for possibilities outside. He stated that in order for Ghana to prosper, this cycle must come to a stop. He went on to counsel the Volta Region's citizens to put the country before party allegiance, recommending that they cast their ballots for significant change rather than remaining with a party that has failed to make headway.
