The Ghana Music Xperience (GMX) streaming platform was not introduced by the NPP government, as some have claimed, according to Rex Omar, a well-known artist and representative of the Ghana Music Rights Organization (GHAMRO). He underlined that the platform is not a government project but rather a private endeavor developed by single individual. Contrary to popular belief, the NPP government did not launch the streaming app. Vice President Bawumia was invited to the launch, which was the result of a private initiative. Rex Omar said, "It is incorrect to give the impression that the NPP government is behind the app."
He added that in order to help the artists who have signed with GHAMRO make money, the organization collaborates with the creators of the GMX platform. The proprietor of Ghana Music Xperience is our collaborator and is helping us digitize the company. He continued, "We have already written to the government, and they promised their cooperation, which we have not yet gotten. Although Rex Omar recognized the platform as a useful new source of income for musicians, he voiced his displeasure with its extreme partisanship. In addition to platforms like Aftown, Uprise, and other private initiatives, this initiative is commendable. However, the politics of the platform is the problem," he said.
