Stonebwoy, a well-known dancehall performer from Ghana, responded to those who argue that the dancehall genre hurts the nation's music business. In a recent interview with Hitz Fm, Stonebwoy made the case that dancehall festivals in particular significantly boost the economy by bringing in a sizable sum of money for a variety of industries. "Dancehall has improved the financial situation of the airlines and hotels that welcome visitors from abroad. It generates a lot of job opportunities and pays individuals to work throughout that week," he said. According to Stonebwoy, dancehall music helps a lot of people make a living and isn't the reason behind issues in Ghana's music sector.
He believes that some people criticize dancehall because they think there should only be one kind of Ghanaian music. Stonebwoy, however, disagrees, arguing that it's crucial to have a variety of musical styles. "I have absolutely no belief in that. I no longer do, even if I once did. It is impossible to expect Ghanaian music to be promoted by a single genre. "Everyone is needed," he clarified. As an illustration of a nation that benefits greatly from musical diversity, Stonebwoy cited the United States, a world leader in the entertainment sector. He pointed out that the US embraces a broad variety of styles rather than promoting just one.
Ghanaian artists ought to be allowed to experiment with various genres, including afrobeat, dancehall, or hip hop, without worrying about criticism or condemnation, according to Stonebwoy. He emphasized that the music industry's success and expansion depend on its embrace of diversity. "A country blessed with a rich cultural heritage should be allowed to express it in diverse ways," he said.
