The purchase of land in Winneba, Central Region, by Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo Markin has drawn criticism from Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Minister-Designate for Foreign Affairs. In response to the Minority Leader's inquiries on ORAL's work, Samuel Okudjeto Ablakwa disclosed that the team was looking into a petition pertaining to land he had purchased in Winneba. The team's search, which was read aloud by Mr. Ablakwa, the head of Operation Recover All Loots (ORAL), showed that the minority leader had purchased land vested in the State under Legislative Instrument (LI) 206 on November 21, 1960.
The Efutu Legislator was leased the land in issue, according to the search, in a 99-year lease deal signed on March 22, 2023, between Afenyo Markin and the Ghanaian government. However, according to Alexander Afenyo Markin, the petition was the result of a misinterpretation of the legal framework that owned all of the land in his region of the state. Although he did not identify the seller, Afenyo Markin stated that the LI indicates that all land purchases in the region are carried out between the state and the interested party.
