After John Dramani Mahama, who will be in charge of the National Democratic Congress (NDC)? As the party considers its future leadership, this is the subject that is consuming political discourse. The current NDC leader and flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, is anticipated to be elected president of Ghana from January 7, 2025, to January 7, 2029. Since this is probably his last term in government, focus has turned to who might be the next flagbearer of the NDC in the post-Mahama era or in the 2028 elections. Four notable individuals have been highlighted by Onua FM as possible successors: Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Haruna Iddrisu, Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, and Dr. Ekwow Spio-Garbrah.
Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, professor Professor Opoku-Agyemang, who is expected to serve as Ghana's next vice president from 2025 to 2029, is a strong candidate to take John Mahama's place as head of the NDC. She is a strong contender because of her background as a former minister of education and because she is the first woman to run for vice president of a major Ghanaian party. **Haruna Iddrisu Another formidable contender is Haruna Iddrisu, the former Minority Leader in Parliament and MP for the Tamale South Constituency. He has continuously been a pivotal member of the NDC and is seen as a strong candidate to lead the party into the future. He is well-known for his leadership and legislative experience.
Ablakwa, Samuel Okudzeto The North Tongu MP has established a solid reputation for honesty and a morally upright style of leadership. Ablakwa is well-known for exposing corruption and keeping the government responsible, and he has won a lot of public respect. Many think that under his direction, the NDC may strengthen its resolve to fight corruption and promote openness.
Ekwow Spio-Garbrah, MD Dr. Spio-Garbrah is an accomplished politician who has served as Ambassador to the United States, Minister of Education, Trade and Industry, and more. His broad experience in policymaking and governance makes him a formidable candidate for the NDC's top leadership position. The NDC's future orientation and voter appeal in the post-Mahama era will be greatly influenced by the selection of its next leader.
