The Ashanti Region of Ghana's village of Ejura was plunged into anarchy on January 11, 2025, when citizens became indignant over the murder of a young man who was in police custody. According to reports, the man who was arrested for allegedly buying a stolen phone passed away while being held. Police took his body to the morgue without telling his family, which infuriated the local youth and sparked a bloody rebellion. Along with surrounding homes and cars, the irate mob set fire to the Ejura police station. They also liberated all of the prisoners by breaking into the cells.
