According to a recent MyJoyOnline story, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) won the election by a margin of more than 1.6 million votes, and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is now under intense internal examination. Former President John Agyekum Kufuor's spokesperson, Frank Agyekum, blamed President Nana Akufo-Addo for the party's demise, pointing to internal conflicts within the NPP and leadership shortcomings.Agyekum talked on the public's rising dissatisfaction with the NPP in an interview on JoyNews' AM Show. He pointed out that the party's apparent haughtiness, particularly among some members, contributed to the alienation of followers.Additionally, he denounced the imposition of unpopular candidates in a number of areas, which he believes was a significant factor in the
He considered the party's decline and admitted that there had been warning indications of problems for a while. According to Agyekum, "the narrative shows that things have been falling apart for a while." "This is where we are now because we disregarded the warnings and did not take corrective action." He also underlined that the leader of the party is ultimately accountable for its performance, saying, "The leader always bears the ultimate responsibility—it stops with him." He receives credit when things go well, but he also has to shoulder some of the blame when they don't.
Agyekum also denounced the presidential and legislative selection process as being defectively conducted. He maintained that the NPP's failure was mostly due to the party's conceit and the gap that existed between the leadership and the people as a result of the latter's disregard for their concerns. Political analyst Dr. Jonathan Asante Okyere echoed these opinions when he proposed that senior NPP officials, such as President Akufo-Addo and former President Kufuor, should take a backseat and let the party find new leadership and direction following its electoral defeat. He underlined the necessity of a new strategy unencumbered by the influence of the current leadership.
