Sadia Alhassan posted a video to her Facebook page on December 27 along with the message, "Akuffo Addo has been rushed to Nyaho Medical Centre." Since then, the post has received over 260 likes, over 1,700 comments, and over 814,000 views. Other social media users have also posted the video here and here.
Similarly, Gh AfroMedia House stated on Facebook that "President Nana Addo has been rushed to the hospital." A number of comments accompanying the post raised doubts about the video's veracity; some people wished it were real and demanded an inquiry into the president's purported actions after the general elections in 2024.
Citi Verify employed a Google reverse image search and an InVID verification procedure to validate the video. According to these, the video first appeared online in November 2019. It was explained at the time that the video showed President Akufo-Addo paying a visit to Tommy Amematekpor, a New Patriotic Party (NPP) member undergoing treatment at Nyaho Medical Center. Eugene Arhin, the Presidency's Director of Communications, backed with this explanation in a statement, refuting rumors that the president had been admitted to the hospital.
In November 2019, Citi Newsroom also covered the statement. Additionally, President Akufo-Addo's health was confirmed by a Citi News correspondent at the Presidency. He also refuted the claim on December 27, when he attended the commissioning of the STEM school in East Legon. In conclusion, the widely shared video is outdated and misaligned. It is untrue to say that President Akufo-Addo was hurried to Nyaho Medical Center.
