Due to their involvement in the tumultuous circumstances that broke out during the Appointments Committee's vetting session on Thursday, four members of parliament have been suspended from parliamentary sessions for a period of two weeks. On Friday, January 31, 2025, Alban Bagbin, the Speaker of Parliament, made the announcement of the disciplinary action on the House floor. Frank Annoh-Dompreh, Alhassan Tampuli, Jerry Ahmed Shaib, and Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor are the impacted Members of Parliament. Following tense arguments between the Majority and Minority caucuses that interrupted proceedings and caused anarchy, they were suspended. Speaker Bagbin's choice demonstrates Parliament's commitment to maintaining order and ensuring civility during parliamentary sessions.
For the next two weeks, the four MPs will not participate in committee meetings or debates as part of the suspension. Expected to be a normal exercise, Thursday's screening session descended into chaos as scheduling disputes became more heated, causing interruptions that were eventually handled by security guards. While Parliament works to restore order and preserve its integrity, the suspension of the four MPs sends a clear message against disruptive behavior in the House.
