A professor at the University of Ghana Business School named Kobby Mensah has endorsed the NPP's move to form a committee to look into the party's shocking defeat in the general elections of 2024. According to 3News, he called the action "a far-reaching decision" that would encourage the party to reexamine its basic beliefs.
In an interview with TV3's News Central on December 24, 2024, Prof. Mensah pointed out that the NPP's current leadership does not entirely represent the party's intellectual identity. In order to restore the party's reputation and win back the public's trust, he underlined that the planned review committee is a positive move. In January 2025, the NPP declared that it would establish an election review committee to assess its performance and determine the causes of the loss. The National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate John Dramani Mahama received 6,328,397 votes (56.55%) to defeat NPP candidate Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who received 4,657,304 votes (41.61%), according to results announced by the Electoral Commission on December 9, 2024.
During a news conference at the NPP headquarters, National Chairman Stephen Ayesu Ntim acknowledged the work of the campaign teams at all levels and addressed the party's sadness. We may not have won the battle, but we haven't lost the fight on the pursuit of a better Ghana, molded by the principles and beliefs of the New Patriotic Party," he said, acknowledging that the election's result was undoubtedly not what we had hoped for. Ntim gave supporters and interested parties the assurance that the review committee will examine the reasons behind the loss objectively.
Engaging party members and the wider public to comprehend the circumstances surrounding the election outcomes is part of the committee's mandate. Ntim expressed faith in the NPP's tenacity and commended the hard work of its members throughout the campaign, despite the defeat. He emphasized the significance of rebuilding and realigning with the party's basic ideals through the review process. The NPP's resolve to get above this setback and fortify its position for upcoming political endeavors is demonstrated by its dedication to carrying out an exhaustive post-mortem.
