Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has threatened to sue media organizations who broadcast a manipulated footage that purportedly featured his remarks about the Free Senior High School (SHS) program.
According to the contentious videotape, which has been played by a number of radio and television stations, Asiedu Nketiah declared that if elected, the next NDC government would abolish the Free SHS scheme. Asiedu Nketiah has vehemently denied these allegations, claiming that the video is a purposeful ploy by the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) to damage his character and increase its political power.
Asiedu Nketiah told the chiefs and residents of Atasemanso in a statement released during his Ashanti campaign trip to disregard the manipulated video. "Meet me in court," he added, challenging the media outlets who aired the deceptive footage.
The NDC Chairman stated that his comments had been misconstrued, stating that the party's pledge to do away with the double-track system—which he characterized as problematic for the Free SHS program—was the subject of his genuine statement. He reiterated that the NDC's position is centered on resolving problems with the Free SHS program's execution and underlined that he has never suggested ending the program itself.
