The Tepa post-election violence at the collation center has been shockingly revealed by the National Democratic Congress.
According to the NDC, a love relationship between the NPP candidate and the district EC officer was the catalyst for the violence that erupted in Tepa, resulting in property damage and the postponing of the results of the presidential and parliamentary elections. On December 9, 2024, gunfire erupted in Tepa, Ashanti Region, causing a chaotic situation that resulted in numerous persons being hurt and taken to the hospital.
At the Tepa Senior High School, where ballot materials for Saturday's presidential and legislative elections were stored, angry groups are said to have set fire to a few buildings. An NDC member disclosed in an interview with Kofi TV that "the EC district director is a woman, and she and the NPP candidate, who is the NADMO director, were in a relationship. He sent him a WhatsApp message that things were getting ugly so he should act. It was 12:42 midnight, and he left his phone when she was running."
"We have their WhatsApp message from February of this year. Tepa, where they were holding the collation, was unsafe, so our people wrote a letter there asking for it to be changed. The police commander agreed, but the woman sent a message to the NPP candidate asking him to deny the change. It was all in the chat." The NDC man added that they found continued communications, including the sharing of information about the parliamentary election, within her WhatsApp messages with the NPP parliamentary candidate.
