In response to popular outrage over the erection of a statue of President Akufo-Addo at the Effia-Nkwanta roundabout, Obrempon Hima Dekyi XIV, the president of the Upper Dixcove Traditional Council, has taken action. When the nation's First Gentleman presented a statue of himself while on a trip of the Western Region, he sparked a social media outcry.
According to Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah, the region's minister, the monument is meant to honor the development projects the president oversaw while in office. The statue, however, has caused a great deal of public outrage, with many Ghanaians accusing the president of self-gratification.
President Akufo-Addo did not honor himself, according to the Upper Dixcove Traditional Council, which has publicly refuted the allegations, according to 3news online. The council clarified in a statement that President Nana Akufo Addo did not unveil the statue as was commonly believed.
"It is important to clarify that, contrary to some reports, the President was invited to the venue. However, my brother Nana Kwesi Agyeman IX, the paramount chief of Lower Dixcove, performed the unveiling with assistance from other distinguished chiefs," Obrepon Dekyi said. The council went on to explain that the statue was created in honor of Akufo Addo because the administration led by him had built numerous significant projects in the region. The respected traditional chiefs asked Ghanaians to ignore the criticism directed at the statue ever since it was unveiled.
Several large-scale projects to improve our region's public services and infrastructure have been led by his administration. A three-tiered junction in Takoradi, the resurfacing of the Tarkwa-Takoradi road, the renovation of the Takoradi Market Circle, and the rehabilitation of the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital are among the important projects, the Council continued.
