Rocky Dawuni, a well-known reggae and Afro-roots musician from Ghana, has once again achieved history by receiving his fourth Grammy nomination for the 2025 ceremony. Another significant achievement in his remarkable career has been the recognition of his song "Rise" in the Best Global Music Performance category.
When Dawuni's album "Branches of the Same Tree" was nominated for Best Reggae Album in 2015, his Grammy quest officially began. His album "Voice of Bunbon Vol. 1" earned him a nomination in the Best Global Music Album category in 2021. His song "Never Bow Down" was most recently nominated for Best Global Music Performance in 2023. Dawuni proudly represents Ghana on the international scene with this most recent nomination, further solidifying his reputation as a worldwide music ambassador.
Dawuni enters the Best Global Music Performance category this year, joining a prestigious group of worldwide performers. Jacob Collier with Anoushka Shankar & Varijashree Venugopal with "A Rock Somewhere," Masa Takumi with Ron Korb, Noshir Mody & Dale Edward Chung with "Kashira," Sheila E. with Gloria Estefan & Mimy Succar with "Bemba Colorá," and Angélique Kidjo & Soweto Gospel Choir with "Sunlight to My Soul" are competing with him.
Some of Africa's best musicians have also won awards in the Best African Music Performance category. These include Asake & Wizkid for "MMS," Burna Boy for "Higher," Chris Brown with Davido & Lojay for "Sensational," Tems for "Love Me JeJe," and Yemi Alade for "Tomorrow." The Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles will host the 2025 Grammy Awards on February 2, 2025. The Recording Academy's continued acknowledgment of Dawuni demonstrates his impact on the world music scene and his commitment to advancing Ghanaian music abroad.
