Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the vice president and flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has declared that ensuring inclusive policies that will benefit all Ghanaians is his fundamental leadership tenet.
At the beginning of his Volta Region campaign tour, Dr. Bawumia stressed in a speech held in Hohoe on Sunday, October 20, 2024, that his worldview is consistent with the NPP's standing as a party that supports inclusive development for all Ghanaians.
Dr. Bawumia declared, "My philosophy is one of broad-based, inclusive development for everyone." He went on to say that this mentality has motivated him as Vice President to help the President implement numerous measures that, in his opinion, have had a good and life-changing effect on Ghanaians.
"For the past eight years, I have served as vice president. I have worked closely with my president as vice president, and as I mentioned earlier, I believe in broad-based development. "Broad-based development is what I mean if you look at the policies we have implemented over the last eight years," Dr. Bawumia said to the chiefs, imams, clergy, and other important Hohoe Constituency stakeholders.
The Free SHS program, which Dr. Bawumia claimed has had a major influence on the country and benefited over 5 million people, is among the inclusive initiatives he has assisted the President in implementing over the years.
We pledged to the Ghanaian people during our 2016 campaign for office that we will carry out a number of policies. The primary and significant commitment we made was to provide free SHS education to Ghana," the speaker stated.
Many felt that we were misleading the people of Ghana when we said that SHS would be free. They asserted that it was unattainable and a 419 promise. However, it has been made possible by God's grace.
"We have been offering Free SHS for the past eight years, and throughout that time, 5.7 million students have benefited from free education. There has never been anything like this. This is significant.
In addition, Dr. Bawumia discussed other inclusive policies that he assisted in putting into effect while serving as vice president. These policies included the digitization of public services, the building of Agenda 111 hospitals in districts lacking hospitals, and improvements to the health sector such as providing ambulances for all constituencies.
In reference to his vision for the presidency, Dr. Bawumia pledged to enact inclusive policies that cater to all citizens of the nation. He emphasized his efforts to prioritize agriculture by investing in it and introducing contemporary farming methods, among other things.
He pointed out that 60% of Ghanaians are farmers, and that giving agriculture priority will benefit the country with the correct attention and assistance. Dr. Bawumia also talked about his plans to lower living expenses by switching the country from an excessive reliance on gas for electricity to solar power, which he claims will cut electricity bills by half.
In addition, he shared his ambition to teach one million young people digital skills so they can work in the field, not just in Ghana but globally.
