Because of procedural violations and threats to its employees during the collation process, the Electoral Commission (EC) has declared the parliamentary results for Dome Kwabenya, Okaikwei Central, and Ablekuma North void.
EC Chairperson Jean Mensa detailed the anomalies that resulted in the judgment during a press briefing on Thursday, December 19, in Accra. She claims that although results from 62 voting stations were excluded from the tabulation for Ablekuma North, results from 31 polling stations were excluded for Okaikwei Central.
"The results were deemed invalid due to these omissions and the declaration of winners without proper collation," she said. The procedure has been finished in Suhum, Akwatia, and Fanteakwa North, three of the twelve seats that were identified for re-collation, she noted. Nevertheless, because of procedural errors, the outcomes for Okaikwei Central and Ablekuma North are still pending.
For seats like Dome Kwabenya, Okaikwei Central, Ablekuma North, and Tema Central, Jean Mensa emphasized that violence and instability interrupted the collation process. Conflicts over how the findings were compiled and managed intensified when the collation duties were moved to the Police Training School. The recollection has been resisted by the National Democratic Congress (NDC), which has maintained that the results announced at voting places should be definitive.
