According to criminologist and professor Dr. Jones Opoku-Oware, there was a security breach when Ibrahim Traoré, the military leader of Burkina Faso, was allowed to maintain his sidearm while mingling with President John Dramani Mahama at the inaugural ceremony.

Dr. Opoku-Ware claims that because it was a dangerous security scenario, the incident may have been prevented.

Some Ghanaians are wondering why, at the inauguration ceremony, Burkina Faso President Ibrahim Traoré went to greet President Mahama while carrying a gun around his waist.
In response to Kwabena Agyapong on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, the lecturer disputed the assertions of others that there was no reason to be concerned, stating that the Burkinabe leader was permitted to carry his firearm because it posed no security risks.
I just said that it was a bug or a little security violation because I observed it. There are security procedures that should be followed during these ceremonies, and the main goal is to protect the president and make sure that anything that could endanger or hinder his security is, to the greatest extent feasible, reduced or eliminated. I knew something wasn't right when I saw the man with the sidearm. Because it put our president in an unnecessary security scenario, it wasn't right. We would have given this individual the chance to pursue the president if he had been driven by criminal motivations.

We could have found a way, he argued.
When you look at the history, you will often discover that individuals closest to presidents are the ones that hurt them. We sometimes assume that folks down there are criminally driven to target our leaders. Despite the fact that the President is the President, we should eliminate everything that could endanger our President. This way, even if someone is motivated by criminal activity, we will make it more difficult for them to endanger the President's safety. It was a blatant security breach, regardless of how anyone interprets it, and I don't believe we should permit it the next time.
