In response to a widely shared video in which NAPO incorrectly endorsed the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, rather than the NPP's candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the spokesperson for the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) vice presidential candidate, Mr. Fiifi Boafo, has defended Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh (NAPO). Although NAPO quickly fixed his error in the video after realizing it, the episode has been criticized and ridiculed, especially by the opposition NDC.
Mr. Boafo clarified to Starr FM that these blunders are normal during lengthy public speaking engagements and do not accurately represent NAPO's actual objectives. He maintained that Dr. Bawumia's statements and actions demonstrated NAPO's longstanding support for him, characterizing the mistake as a temporary lapse brought on by the stress of prolonged public speaking.
He stated: "The individuals you cited stated that it was a purposeful action rather than an accident. If that was indeed what he meant to say, John Mahama, why would he go on to explain that he was referring to Doctor Bawumia? In any case, let me explain. Slips happen to everyone, even Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh. Dr. Matthew will never choose John Dramani Mahama over Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. He has presented arguments on a number of forums that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is a better choice for our nation than John Mahama. "NAPO's references to Mahama are intentional reminders to Ghanaians of the NDC leader's past record in governance," Mr. Boafo continued.
It is necessary that Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh discuss John Mahama. We are holding an election, which is why you must bring up John Mahama. Those who will cast ballots today, who are eighteen years old, were ten years old when John Mahama was leaving office. It's possible that they were unaware that John Mahama made us endure nearly five years of darkness. They might not be aware that during his time as president, John Mahama forced us to wait in line before purchasing gasoline at the station. They might not be aware that John Mahama was the one who canceled the allowances for teachers and nurses.
They might not be aware that chalk was a necessary resource in our nation while John Mahama was president. He must thus inform the public that John Mahama is the individual who is returning to us in order to request a mandate to lead our nation. "We must remind ourselves of the problems he caused when he was president of our nation since he has previously ruled the nation. He is merely serving to remind us of the risks and difficulties we faced while John Mahama was president. However, not in a way that would encourage people to vote for him. That is a poor decision, and he will not suggest it. Mahama's reaction
In the meantime, NDC flagbearer John Dramani Mahama has made fun of the NPP over the blunder, saying that its leaders often bring up his name because they are obsessed with him. "John Mahama is the person that the NPP leaders dream about when they go to sleep," Mahama stated during a gathering in Yilo Krobo. "Just as I was coming here, Odumasi, I saw another video," Mahama stated, referencing similar mistakes made by President Nana Akufo-Addo and Ashanti Regional NPP Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako (Chairman Wontumi). NAPO, their running mate, was advising them on who to support. "Vote for John Mahama," he urged. He didn't hear them when they whispered to him. "So when you vote, vote for Mahama," he reiterated. "No, no, no, Bawumia, Bawumia," they uttered after that.
