The National Democratic Congress (NDC) communicator Dela Edem has been under heavy fire from renowned Ghanaian prophet Nicholas Osei, also known as Prophet Kumchacha, for his derogatory comments on former President John Agyekum Kufuor. Dela Edem recently caused controversy when he implied that the former president's need for a wheelchair was due to transgressions that occurred when he was in office. Several Ghanaians have reacted negatively to these remarks, which are generally considered insulting and improper. In an interview, Prophet Kumchacha, who is renowned for being direct and honest, denounced the comments and called on Dela Edem to issue a public apology to former President Kufuor as well as the Ghanaian people.
"You deserve an unconditional apologies to former President Kufuor and all Ghanaians for your demeaning remarks, Dela Edem. According to Prophet Kumchacha, it is totally improper to imply that he is in a wheelchair as a result of his transgressions. Given the unpredictability of life, we must use caution when speaking. Nobody can predict the future. The prophet went on to say that aging has its own set of difficulties and that remarks like these denigrate the dignity of the aged. He underlined how crucial it is to show respect for leaders, irrespective of their political membership.
At the age of 86, it is normal for former President Kufuor to experience health issues. "The beginning and the end of life are not the same," he said. "Dela, you and I should consider ourselves fortunate if we survive to be 86 years old. As a result, I suggest that you take back your accusations that Kufuor is a hypocrite and that his illness is the result of sin.
Many Ghanaians have found resonance in Prophet Kumchacha's statements, and many have also denounced Dela Edem's words as improper and unnecessary. To encourage appropriate communication within the party, some citizens have encouraged the NDC to discipline Dela Edem. The incident emphasizes the need for civility and respect in public discourse, especially when addressing national figures like former President Kufuor, whose legacy and contributions to Ghana's development remain significant, even though Dela Edem has not yet publicly responded to the calls for an apology.
