Mike Ocquaye Jr., the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) parliamentary candidate for Dome Kwabenya, has come under fire from former National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, for challenging the election results. In an interview on Monday's Asempa FM show, Dr. Ofosu-Ampofo questioned Mr. Ocquaye's behavior.
Am I right, Mike Ocquaye? It's unjust what you're doing, so if you're kidding, stop. The parliamentary candidate is not visible when you complete your private analysis and discover you have lost. Would Mike Ocquaye, in your opinion, win an election and then go to bed when the results were announced? They are simply being dishonest and misleading the public," he stated. According to Mr. Ocquaye Jr., the results announcement in support of Faustina Elikplim Akrugu, the NDC's parliamentary candidate, was deemed void.
The NDC won the Dome Kwabenya seat, which has hitherto been controlled by the NPP, for the first time when Madam Akrugu crossed the 50% threshold in the vote count. However, Mr. Ocquaye Jr. asserted during a press conference on Tuesday, December 10, that NDC supporters burned some ballots, obscuring the actual results from constituents. Nevertheless, Dr. Ofosu-Ampofo noted that security was in place throughout the declaration and collation procedure, guaranteeing the accuracy of the findings.
The psychology of elections, he added, "is that you won't see the parliamentary candidate around if you realize the results won't go in your favor." Do you believe that if Mike Ocquaye realized he had won, he would go to bed? He was unable to sleep.
