A well-known political scientist and key member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Amoako Baah, revealed that the Asante wing of the party is currently debating changing the name of the party to the New Patriotic Force. Dr. Baah stated in an exclusive interview with Captain Smart on ONUA TV that the action is a result of Asantes feeling neglected within the party, especially after Nana Addo was elected president. During the interview, Dr. Baah cited two main reasons for the NPP's loss: President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo's perceived haughtiness and his poor economic management. "Nana Addo's haughtiness and poor economic management caused the NPP to lose this election. "A lot of party members feel excluded and alienated," he said.
Additionally, he accused the party's flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, of complicity in the party's downfall. Dr. Baah bemoaned the fact that "Bawumia allowed himself to be used as a tool to destroy the party." Dr. Baah did not spare Dr. Bawumia's running mate, Matthew Opoku Prempeh (NAPO), who denounced his divisive comments regarding Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, Ghana's first president. The old colors would remain, albeit with minor adjustments, despite the name change. In addition, a new logo would take the place of the party's well-known elephant.
