The parliamentary results for the constituencies of Dome Kwabenya, Okaikwei Central, Ablekuma North, and Tema Central have been deemed unlawful and unconstitutional by the Electoral Commission (EC). This declaration was made during a press event in Accra on Friday by Samuel Tettey, the Deputy EC Chair for Operations.
Three of the twelve seats that needed a recollation of the parliamentary results—Suhum, Akwatia, and Fanteakwa North—had been satisfactorily finished, Tettey clarified. Recollation has not yet occurred in Techiman South, Obuasi East, Ahafo Ano North, or Ahafo Ano South West. It is crucial to observe that, despite police being present at the collation centers to allow commission staff to conduct the re-collation, the following constituencies—Dome Kwabenya, Okaikwei Central, Ablekuma North, and Tema Central—did not follow the established procedures as outlined in CI 127.
"Party supporters once more overran the centers, forcing out staff to announce the results of their preferred candidates," Tettey said. He further emphasized that the CI 127 procedure was not followed in all four cases, and EC personnel were threatened with declaring winners without following the necessary protocols. Since the methods for collation and declaration as outlined in CI 127 were broken and not followed, he continued, "the commission has concluded that the collation and declarations that did not follow laid down procedures are illegal and cannot be upheld by the commission."
