Frederick Acheampong, a member of the Ghana Football Association's Executive Council, has been the subject of a petition to the Federation of International Football Association (FIFA) asking them to look into the matter and maybe take action. Angel Broadcasting Network's Listowel Mensah submitted the petition, asking FIFA's Ethics Committee to punish Frederick Acheampong for allegedly violating Article 15 (1) of the FIFA code of ethics. The accusation made by Listowel Mensah stems from Frederick Acheampong's choice to run for parliament for the New Patriotic Party in the general elections of 2024.
Documents viewed by GhanaWeb show that FIFA confirmed receiving the petition and pledged to act if it was determined to be legitimate. As the NPP's parliamentary candidate for Ahafo Ano South East, Frederick Acheampong ran in the 2024 elections but was unsuccessful. Yakubu Mohammed, a candidate for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), defeated him. The announcement follows rumors that Frederick Acheampong's mother had passed away. Collins Atta Poku, a sports journalist, claims that the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) made the announcement on their platform.

The journalist from Sompa FM offered his condolences to his former coworker, with whom he had previously worked as a journalist at Kessben FM in Kumasi, and urged him to remain resilient during this difficult time. I was devastated to learn on the SWAG platform that Fred Achie had lost his mother. I was able to witness his closeness to and attachment to his mother throughout my Kessben days. For Kofi, that is a terrible blow. It's an odd mortal life. On December 20, 2024, Atta Poku posted on X, "Only God knows what is best for us."
