High levels of security are in place as the Supreme Court considers NDC's appeal against the High Court's recollation decision. Friday, December 27, 2024, 09:26 On Friday, December 27, the Supreme Court was heavily guarded in anticipation of the hearing of the National Democratic Congress' (NDC) lawsuit challenging the High Court's decision over the contested constituency results. A High Court decision that ordered the Electoral Commission (EC) to recollect the results of parliamentary elections in nine contested constituencies is being contested by the NDC. The New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the NDC's resentful parliamentary candidates had filed a writ to force the EC to call new elections in these seats.
They pointed to irregularities in the results compilation and the winners' announcement that followed. In his decision on Friday, December 20, presiding judge Joseph Adu Owusu Agyeman directed the EC to continue with the recount of the Ablekuma North constituency results. Despite protests from NDC lawyers, led by Godwin Edudzi Tameklo, this decision was rendered. Although both attorneys contended that the constituency results had already been announced, the court decided that irregularities in the procedure justified the recall.
