The outgoing MP for the Manso Nkwanta constituency, Hon. George Obeng Takyi, has strongly urged President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to take public responsibility for the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) loss in the 2024 elections.
The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), led by former President John Dramani Mahama, defeated the NPP in what has been called a major defeat. Hon. Obeng Takyi blamed the party's electoral setback on the splits caused by the NPP primaries in a local radio broadcast. He charged that President Akufo-Addo alienated grassroots followers and shattered party unity during the nomination process by engaging in a "scheming role."
The departing MP claims that the bad electoral performance was ultimately a result of the leadership's activities, which stoked long-standing dissatisfaction among members. Obeng Takyi said, "President Akufo-Addo should publicly take responsibility for the NPP's defeat." "He needs to express regret to Ghanaians for his cunning during the NPP primaries. We paid a heavy price for the cracks that were made during that procedure.
