The traditional leader of the Dagombas, Ya-Na Abubakari Mahama II, has stated that he strongly believes that former President John Dramani Mahama is sincere in his desire to serve Ghana and not pursue personal financial gain by running for reelection. He made these remarks while meeting President Mahama, who is presently on his "Building Ghana Tour."
In addition to praising Mahama for his leadership record, the Ya-Na said that his goals for a second term are focused on advancing the future of the country rather than enriching himself or his family. "I firmly believe that you do not want to gain power in order to benefit your family or yourself. He said, "You want to leave a legacy that will make your children proud," demonstrating his faith in Mahama's motives.
In addition to supporting Mahama, the Ya-Na gave him advise in case he was elected to another term. He emphasized how crucial it is to make tough choices, especially while reorganizing his team. When choosing his team members, he counseled Mahama to put skill and trust first, even if it meant replacing seasoned allies who might not be doing their best work. The Ya-Na emphasized that Mahama's team needs to be competent and dependable in order for his vision to be realized.
Furthermore, the Ya-Na stressed how important Mahama's close circle is to the administration's success. He issued a warning that poor leadership within this group could have detrimental effects on the future of the country. "Your inner circle is crucial to the nation's governance. Ghanaians would not forgive you if you made a serious error in this situation, he said. The Ya-Na's support for Mahama and his aspirations for capable leadership in the event that the former president regains power are both evident in these remarks.
