Oliver Barker-Vormawor, a human rights advocate, has apologized unconditionally to the Appointments Committee of Parliament for a social media post implying that cabinet nominees had to pay money to gain approval.Barker-Vormawor explained during his interrogation before the Committee that his remarks were not intended to cast doubt on its members or suggest that they had participated in bribes. "I didn't want to suggest that members of the Appointments Committee have accepted or sought bribes from different people, nor was my post meant to degrade them. My sentence was never meant to make the same comment. "I apologize for those reasons," he said. He went on to explain why he hadn't removed the post sooner, saying that he had first thought about doing so
He continued, "I saw that the words had been twisted, and that if I was questioned about it, reference can be made to verify it. That is why I have left the post on and not deleted it—in fact, I did consider it."However, after their meeting, Barker-Vormawor promised the Committee that he would be willing to eliminate the job."I'm glad to (take it down), Mr. Chair. as the discussion has shown, and it has become more clear. I'm glad to.His attorney, Nana Ato Dadzie, said that one of the quotes being disseminated was incorrectly attributed to his client and rejected claims that Barker-Vormawor had directly attacked members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) on the Committee.During the hearing, two assertions were closely examined.
"The second statement is fake," declared Nana Ato Dadzie, who vehemently disagreed with it. That sentence was never written by him. He didn't write or post the message himself. He made it clear that this was not from Mr. Barker-Vormawor.He did, however, affirm that the initial statement, which was shared on Facebook on January 24, was the work of his client. Committee Chairman Bernard Ahiafor responded by asking Barker-Vormawor to formally renounce the statement he denies authorship.
