John Dumelo, the candidate for Member of Parliament for Ayawaso West Wuogon, has revealed that his father, Engineer John William Kudzo Anato-Dumelo Snr., passed away at the age of 75.
Dumelo posted an emotional story of his final minutes with his father on Facebook, stating that their last chat was only a few hours before he passed away. "You had a good life at 75 years old. You contacted me multiple times yesterday asking me to come visit you. We talked extensively about politics, life, farming, business, and of course, gossip while we sat on the bed," Dumelo wrote. Before his impending swearing-in ceremony, the MP-elect recalled how his father advised him, stating, "We spoke about my swearing-in in 3 days' time, and you told me specifically to serve diligently in government."
Dumelo got some upsetting news shortly after he left his father's house. "I was phoned to report that you were not responding ten minutes after I left your house. We hurried you to the hospital when I returned, and then you were gone," he revealed. The actor and farmer paid tribute to his father in a moving way, thanking him for his lifelong support and advice. "I am grateful for everything you have done for me, including being my father, best friend, and biggest supporter," he stated. With a heartfelt farewell, he ended the post: "Say hello to mum on our behalf. We will miss you." May you rest in peace. John William Kudzo Anato-Dumelo Sr., an engineer
The timing of Dumelo's defeat is significant for his political career. He just defeated incumbent Lydia Seyram Alhassan of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) by a margin of 2,200 votes while running on the National Democratic Congress (NDC) banner. Alhassan received 32,600 votes, and Dumelo 34,800. Dumelo will follow his father's parting counsel to serve with diligence as he starts his term as MP for Ayawaso West Wuogon, as he gets ready for his swearing-in ceremony in three days.
