Renowned Ghanaian writer Abdul-Malik Kweku Baako has disputed former President John Mahama's assertions that he started the Free Senior High School (SHS) program. Baako, editor-in-chief of the New Crusading Guide newspaper, shared his opinions about Peace FM's well-liked "Kokrokoo" radio program in a video that went viral on Twitter. He categorically stated that the former president did not establish the foundation for Free SHS and rejected Mahama's claim as untrue.

It might have taken an eternity if Ghana had depended on Mahama to establish Free SHS, Baako joked, adding that Ghanaians would still be waiting "until Jesus Christ comes." Baako's opinion that Mahama was not entirely dedicated to providing free secondary education throughout his administration is supported by this remark. One of President Nana Akufo-Addo's administration's main pledges was the Free SHS initiative, which offers all Ghanaian students free secondary education. Following the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) victory in the 2016 elections, it was formally introduced in September 2017. President John Mahama, who in office from 2012 to 2017, reportedly asserted that the Free SHS policy was started by his administration. Baako and others counter that it was only under Akufo-Addo's direction that the scheme was made a reality.
