The National Democratic Congress (NDC) legislative leadership has been directed by President-elect John Dramani Mahama to designate the Right Honourable Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin as Speaker of the 9th Parliament of Ghana's Fourth Republic.
Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Mahama's Special Aide, signed a press statement stating that the decision was issued after discussions with the National Executive and Parliamentary Leadership of the NDC.
The president-elect emphasized Bagbin's stellar public service career, which included his positions as Speaker of the 8th Parliament, Minority Leader, Majority Leader, and Member of Parliament for Nadowli. Bagbin's vast experience will be invaluable in guiding legislative activities during this pivotal juncture in Ghana's democratic growth, Mahama said.
"Ghana's Parliament will be further strengthened to deliver on its oversight responsibilities under his stewardship," the statement said. It is anticipated that Bagbin, one of Ghana's longest-serving lawmakers, will stabilize and maintain the nation's parliamentary process.
