John Dramani Mahama has received official congratulations from President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for winning Ghana's 2024 presidential election. The news came after the Electoral Commission formally announced the results on Monday, December 9, 2024. Akufo-Addo congratulated Mahama's resounding victory and promised to facilitate a smooth and peaceful handover of power in a phone conversation with the president-elect. The move is expected to take place on January 7, 2025. In an effort to strengthen Ghana's standing as a defender of democratic principles, Akufo-Addo stated his readiness to work with Mahama's administration to ease the transition.
The Ghanaian people and the Electoral Commission were also praised by Akufo-Addo for holding a credible and peaceful election. Emphasizing the value of unity, he urged all Ghanaians to back initiatives aimed at bolstering the country's democracy and rule of law. To start talking about the handover process, the President summoned Mahama to a meeting on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, in Jubilee House. The dedication of both leaders to preserving stability and peace throughout the transition is demonstrated by this gesture. Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia, who stood for the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), lost to Mahama, who received 56.55% of the vote in the election on December 7, 2024. Public discontent with the NPP's economic policies is widely seen as the reason for Mahama's victory, which marks a dramatic political change.

Ghana's status as a symbol of democratic stability in Africa is strengthened by this seamless transition, which shows the country's unwavering dedication to democracy and sound governance. John Mahama has not yet responded formally to his election victory in 2024.
