A spectacular occurrence that occurred in the Obuasi East seat during the 2024 general elections garnered worldwide attention. Despite earlier promises from the Ghana Armed Forces that no military personnel would be dispatched to polling places, the conflict took place on December 7 between the local NDC Communication Officer and two military officials who were present at a polling station. The soldiers were reportedly accosted by the NDC Communication Officer, who threatened to report them to the police unless they left right away. When he allegedly knocked a phone out of one of the soldiers' hands, as shown in a widely shared video, the scene became more heated. When the troops refused to leave, the dispute became violent, and other NDC supporters at the voting place joined in, making it much more intense.
The National Chairman of the NDC Zongo Caucus Working Committee, Alhaji Said Sinare, praised the NDC Communication Officer's actions a few days later on December 14 and welcomed him to his house. In a video that Ednews posted on X, Sinare commended the officer's "determination and bravery," calling him a hero who put his own safety in danger to defend the election process against "fake soldiers." > "After seeing the video, I started crying." With God's grace, I am confident that we will recompense you, Sinare said.

Discussions over polling station security procedures and the military's involvement in elections have been spurred by this occurrence, raising worries about possible electoral disturbances and national political unrest.
