After the New Patriotic Party (NPP) suffered a recent electoral setback, journalist Nana Jantuah of Angel FM sent a forceful message to the party, encouraging them to keep Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as their flagbearer for the general elections in 2028. According to Jantuah, the history of the NPP indicates that any presidential candidate has already suffered several defeats. He cautioned that the party may suffer greatly and end up spending more time in opposition if Bawumia were to be replaced by another candidate.
"The NPP needs to reinstate Bawumia, but I'm not running for office. Bawumia is the only person they should consider introducing," he said. Jantuah also praised Bawumia's behavior during the inauguration of President John Mahama, saying that many Ghanaians respect him for his grace. Jantuah pointed out that Bawumia's modest acceptance of losing the 2024 elections has improved his reputation even more. It's interesting to note that Jantuah's comments vary from his previous assessments of Bawumia's management style, in which he projected that the former vice president would finish fourth in the 2024 elections. Jantuah now believes that Bawumia is the NPP's strongest candidate for the 2028 elections, notwithstanding his earlier position.
