As her party's presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has been overlooked by the NPP parliamentary candidate for the Wa Central Constituency in favor of John Dramani Mahama of the NDC. This was seen on Thursday, November 21, 2024, during a youth advocacy campaign in Washington as well as during the opening of her campaign there. In a post that Sungmaale FM captured during their Facebook live session, some young people from Duori, Zongo, were seen campaigning.
When Hajia Humu Awudu polled almost 10,000 more votes than her presidential candidate, Nana Akufo-Addo, in the 2020 general elections, the NPP's skirt and blouse were exposed. Following the retention of Hajia Humu Awudu as its Parliamentary Candidate for Wa, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is scheduled to compete against Dr. Rashid Hassan Pelpuo in the Wa Central Constituency in the general elections of 2024. During the Party's internal constituency elections on April 30, 2022, the constituency elected Mr. Hamid Osuman as its new constituency chairman, replacing Mr. Ali Kamara. A few Wa Central Constituency Party Executives were replaced.
The 2020 general election statistics make it very evident that a number of constituencies voted against President Akufo-Addo. Hajia Humu Awudu received 33,340 votes, or 45.43%, while incumbent President Nana Akufo-Addo received 23,663 votes, or 32.57%. A 9,677-vote difference. In contrast, Dr. Rashid Hassan Pelpuo received 39,542 votes, or 53.88%, while his presidential candidate, John Dramani Mahama, received 47,984 votes, or 66.05%, at that point.
PPP's Mohammed Sharif 304 votes, or 0.41% of all valid votes, were cast. Kuuyine Edgara Yelyaga of the LPG Party received 208 votes, or 0.28% of the vote. Compared to his parliamentary candidate in 2020, President Akufo-Addo lost 9,677 votes in the constituency, according to the records. The Margin has generated discussions and brought attention to the Wa Central Constituency's outcomes. Is the story going to be the same in 2024?
